The new Haima collection from Turkestan takes us inside these characteristic Iranian nomadic homes; rustic and simple in its approach, but full of textile treasures, both inside and outside.
These tents, used by the nomadic Qashqai tribes, are rectangular structures, light and easy to transport. The term known as Haima, in Iran is called "Gara chador" (black tent).
The fabric is made of 1m wide ropes, made by hand with goat hair, sewn together and joined by wooden pins called "Chelal". Its texture allows ventilation and at the same time behaves like a waterproof material, perfect for rainy days. This fabric from the stores gives rise to our collection of Caprino kilims.
The roof is supported by two parallel rows of poles and by braided cords, attached to pieces of carved wood "Dom sukh", which function as guy lines.

The Kilims are flat fabrics of multiple colors that will be used inside the Haimas as covers and decoration.
A special and important kilim is usually used to cover and protect the pile of belongings, arranged along the back wall of the tent. The symbolic motifs and colors of the kilim identify the tribe to which it belongs, giving visibility to the weaver's skill.
Another type of the fabrics that we can find in the Haimas are the Jajims, with a lighter texture, which will also be used to decorate the interior of the tent. Most are made with vertical stripes called “Konara”, in twill weave. Many have a plain central field with a checkered border “Masurkash”, or with triangle designs.
Other fabrics that the nomads use are the so-called Khoree and Mafrash, used as bags and suitcases, to store and transport cereals, salt and their belongings.
The Mafrash, made of a more complex and highly resistant fabric, are box-shaped bags that, when empty, can be easily folded and stored. The seams, handles and straps are made of leather to give them even greater resistance. In the Haima collection we can find them in the form of puffs and trunks, in different designs and sizes.
