As the Iranian author Parviz Tanavoli points out in his book “Gabbeh, The Georges D. Bornet Collection- Part Two” from 1995, there are a number of common elements between the motifs used by the Bauhaus movement and the ancestral motifs woven by the Qashqai tribes. The author highlights the fact that if the Bauhaus movement had discovered this type of rugs, there is no doubt that they would have been one of their favorite decorative objects.
The idea has been to show some drawings made by the Italian design studio SoFarSoNear for Zollanvari, in which the motifs used by the Qashqai women are combined with those used by the Bauhaus movement. These designs were presented to the weavers for their realization and this collection is the result of that collaboration.
